An Effective Practice

Description

First Call provides adults and adolescents confidential, one-on-one evaluations with a certified substance abuse professional and referrals for appropriate care. All clinical services offered by First Call are available on a sliding scale fee schedule in accordance with federal poverty guidelines, and no one is refused services for inability to pay.

Goal / Mission

The goal of Assessment and Referral is to help individuals struggling with a substance use disorder evaluate their needs and strengths and begin to make healthy choices that improve the overall quality of their lives.

Impact

First Call provided over 1,700 assessments in 2013, and more than half of clients showed improvements in their Addiction Severity Index (ASI) scores or a decrease in substance use.

Results / Accomplishments

In 2013, First Call provided 1,736 individual assessments, which resulted in 610 treatment plans and 288 follow-up assessments. Following assessment, 58% of clients showed improvement in their Addiction Severity Index (ASI) scores, which include measures such as employment, legal issues, family and social relationships, and medical and psychological state. In addition, 64% of clients showed decreased substance use.
