Child Care Arrangements - Child Care Center or Licensed Family Day Care

County: San Mateo
Measurement Period: 2022
This indicator shows the percentage of parents who reported a child care center or licensed family day care as the primary child care arrangement.

Why is this important?

Childcare is a significant household expense for families with young children. Access to affordable and high quality childcare is essential for parents to be able to provide sufficient income for their family while ensuring all of their children's social and educational needs are met. In regions where child care costs are high, family budgets are strained and parents may be forced to sacrifice in the quality of child care arrangements they select for their children. Affordable childcare in a community also strengthens the economy through a larger labor force and stronger tax base.

Technical note: Values for the different regions and subgroups which may be statistically unstable and should be interpreted with caution are noted as such. If you don't see a value for a region or a subgroup (broken down by gender, age, education level, federal poverty level, race/ethnicity, and sexual orientation), it is because the value has been suppressed due to statistical unreliability.
